A big thank you to my Island Savings a division of First West Credit Union co-workers who joined me this morning and did some walking through the local neighbourhood to drop off more than 200 food bags for the Annual BC Thanksgiving Food drive. Joining me were Richard Raddatz, Vanessa Won and Samantha Olaussen. On Saturday we will return to pick up the bags with any non-perishable food items donated and deliver them to a central location where they can be checked, sorted, boxed and prepared for distribution to local food banks here in the Cowichan area. Last year the initiative raised more than 475,000 lbs of food which was collected by more than 5000 volunteers and was sorted and delivered to community food banks throughout the province. I did the initiative last year with my family and had a great time, I made sure we all signed up again this year. It was a very fast paced go, go, go event after which there was great satisfaction in having done so much in such a short period of time. Hats off to everyone who will be participating this year in more than 100 communities throughout our province!
