What inspires you to volunteer?
Growing up in Mission B.C. I often saw a need in our community for youth support and for more recreational activities. Being able to be a part of an event like Cinema Under the Stars (hosted by Prospera Credit Union) was an opportunity for me to connect with my community in a different way. Seeing all the families out here having fun together is just so heartwarming.
Which cause(s) are you most passionate about and why?
Youth initiatives. There are so many at-risk youth in our community, and that presents a real opportunity for us to reach out and try to guide them in a positive direction. It is so important to recognize when there is a need and fulfill it to help our youth become happy, productive adults.
What impact have you seen the organization(s) you work with, and their volunteers, make in the community?
I currently am involved with MY (Mission Youth) House, which is a drop in home for youth aged 13-26 to come and have a hot meal, take a shower, do laundry, and access countless resources. The staff there is amazing, and have had a huge impact on so many youth. Several youth are no longer homeless as a result of the work that is done at MY House.
What support is needed by the organization(s) and how can people learn more or get involved?
Food and monetary donations are always welcome. At times, there is a need for individuals to volunteer as a presence in the youth house. Is there a person, organization or good company (e.g. employer) you would like to recognize that has helped support you to make a difference?
I joined Prospera Credit Union because I wanted to be involved in the community and our values really spoke to me! I look forward to be involved in many community events and initiatives!
